Expect Horror

Expect Horror is a collection of code-generated poetry that combines horror scripts with the seminal book What to Expect When You’re Expecting.

This piece explores the dynamics of fear and anxiety as it’s represented overtly in horror films against the insidious fear and anxiety surrounding the culture of caregiving. By intertwining these disparate artifacts, I invite the viewer to decipher and guess the source material.

Interpreting the artist's book as a stack of plates grounds this work in the realm of the domestic. How does the fear of the unknown haunt our homes and influence our caregiving? Why is the home such a site of vulnerability in horror films and what does that tell us about the American Dream?
